6 Planet-Positive Brands Reducing Their Environmental Impact

Date: 2023-04-13

Harry Rosen has always believed in investing in well-made pieces that will last. While buying quality is the most sustainable action one can take, it is comforting to know that when a new addition to the closet is needed, many of today’s designers are turning to recycled materials, more sustainable production methods and natural resources.

This Earth Day, we wanted to shine a light on the brands working responsibly and innovating to create products with the planet in mind. From ZEGNA to Paul & Shark here are a few of the brands aiming to reduce their impact.

ZEGNA

The home of ZEGNA’s values was established by its founder — a lover of nature and deeply rooted in his homeland — who planted the first tree in the area surrounding his Wool Mill in 1910.  For over a century, the Zegna family has taken care of the restoration and  protection of Oasi Zegna that today includes over 500,000 trees and counting— serving as a set of values that promote harmony between people, manufacture and nature.

Born in Oasi, Zegna — Oasi Cashmere is a central development of ZEGNA’s Road to Traceability as the brand is committing to be fully traceable on cashmere fiber by 2024. The collection — which spans the iconic Overshirt, to soft knits and more, is crafted with luxurious cashmere fibers in which we continue to strengthen our commitment to source responsibly in harmony with nature, from goat to garment.

Oasi, Zegna, ultimately remains at the forefront for everything we do at ZEGNA, as it allows us to look back whilst remaining firmly focused on the future.

Bellroy

This certified B Corp brand's premium leather and recycled fabric accessories are all created with a balance of functionality and durability to ensure the utmost quality. Bellroy’s environmental goals have been inspired by Cradle-to-Cradle principles – a holistic, economic and industrial foundation that creates efficient and essentially waste- free systems for businesses. Having products that last long, using biodegradable and recyclable materials, and eliminating serious toxins are some of the decision-making goals that Bellroy strives to achieve.

Paul & Shark

Being a brand inspired by the spirit of adventure and the world of sailing, Paul & Shark has a dedication to the sea and our marine ecosystems. The Paul & Shark Spring/Summer collection shows their ongoing commitment to sustainability through the use of responsible raw materials, ranging from recycled plastic to the latest ECONYL® garments made from regenerated nylon.

All cotton items are made from 100% organic cotton. The brand also introduced ECONYL®, an infinitely recyclable regenerated nylon into their Typhoon 20000 jackets. It’s made from nylon landfill waste and fishing nets found in our oceans. For every 10,000 tons of ECONYL® raw material, they can save 70,000 barrels of crude oil and avoid 57,100 tonnes of CO2 emissions.

GABBA

The tagline “Perfectly Human” extends to more than just GABBA’s reliable, relatable clothing, but also to their commitment to sustainability and corporate social responsibility. GABBA places paramount importance on achieving transparency and traceability across its collections, constantly pushing to develop further methods to reduce its overall impact on the environment.

When it comes to materials, GABBA’s ambition is to entirely phase out conventional fibres and instead solely source fibres that more positively effect the planet, whether the materials are organic, recycled, or other. In 2022, GABBA was certified in accordance with GOTS and GRS, which are leading global standards for the responsible use of organic fibres as well as tracking and verifying recycled material use in products.

Vilebrequin

French luxury swimwear brand Vilebrequin is known for its high-quality, timeless swimwear and accessories, but the brand should also be on your radar this Earth Month for their commitment to environmental responsibility.

By committing to a firm, environmentally friendly approach to production, Vilebrequin allows its customers to truly enjoy their travels with a clear conscience. Featuring just above 88% recycled and organic materials, Vilebrequin’s current collection is almost entirely sustainably made, using locally sourced materials from across the Mediterranean.

Vuori

Drawing inspiration from the close-to-nature Californian lifestyle, Vuori produces a range of eco-responsible activewear made to stand the test of time, so that you can feel good about what you’re wearing and how it was made.

By continually working to increase its use of high-quality recycled and organic materials, reducing its carbon footprint and overall waste, using 100% recycled plastic packaging, and setting lofty goals for future eco initiatives and improvements, Vuori is making good on their commitment to make Earth a happier, healthier place.
