What is Grid Core?

Explaining one of this season’s most exciting trends (and how you can embrace it too).

From bold plaids to windowpanes to micro checks and more, structured patterns are making a statement this season.

Whether spotted on casual shirts, light jackets, or sweaters and knitwear, grid-like patterns are popping up everywhere, and that’s no coincidence. Many of your favourite designers have heavily leaning into the Grid Core trend throughout their Spring/Summer ‘25 collections.

Contemporary brands like Rhude and BOSS make frequent use of plaids and tartans, while luxury labels like Kiton focus on windowpane and check patterns found in fine tailoring fabrics. Regardless of the specific pattern, pieces featuring grid patterns are on-trend this season.

Style Tip: 1 Bold, 2 Solids

An easy rule of thumb to follow when wearing patterns is to keep them to “one bold, two solids”. Whether layering a grid pattern into an outfit or wearing one as an anchor piece, this theory allows one patterned piece to do all the talking while the supporting solid colours provide a neutral frame.

Style Tip: Consider Colour

  • A man in a brown jacket and hat standing on a street

When styling grid patterns, be conscious of the colours within the pattern. Make sure the colours featured in the check or grid pattern are echoed elsewhere in the outfit to provide a cohesive consistency throughout the look.
