Ask Harry: How to Style Loafers

Dressed up or dressed down, here’s how to wear a pair of classic loafers for any occasion.

Loafers are one of the most versatile shoes one can own and look great in virtually every sartorial context, from dressing up for the office to kicking back on the weekend.

The best part is, styling loafers couldn’t be simpler. Just slip some on and you're out the door faster than ever!

Keep it Casual

Where sneakers might be your first thought for more casual looks, loafers provide a smarter edge without the formality of a lace-up oxford or derby.

Don’t be afraid to wear loafers with more hard-wearing materials like denim jeans or heavyweight cotton pants – the high-low contrast in formality provides an enticing visual interest.

Socks or No Socks?

When it comes to casual weekend looks, whether you wear socks or no socks is purely personal preference. That said, socks are generally better suited to more professional loafer looks, like with a suit or tailored trousers.

While going sockless is somewhat limited to the spring and summer months, opting to wear no-show socks is an effective way to replicate the look without forgoing the comfort and protection benefits of socks.
